What is sports therapy?
According to the Society of Sports Therapists, Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of function, occupational and sports-specific fitness, regardless of age and ability.
Five major professional components:
1. Prevention of injury
2. Recognition and evaluation
3. Management, treatment, and referral
4. Rehabilitation
5. Education and professional practice issues
Clinically, a sports therapist is educated and trained to assess, treat, and rehabilitate injuries by providing appropriate soft tissue intervention and treatment modalities, implementing appropriate rehabilitation, and return to training/ work program.

In the sporting environment, sports therapists optimise performance preparation and injury prevention. While in an emergency, provide immediate care for injuries and basic life support on the field.
